Galactic Civilizations 3 Released
Do you have what it takes to maintain an empire spanning an entire galaxy? Can you keep track of all the supply lines, fleets of warships, and whimsical populations across hundreds of planets?
Not just for fans of the amazing Galactic Civilizations series, the newest title is for anyone who enjoys epic scale sweeping strategy games.
Galactic Civilizations 2 was the first game I played in this genre that evoked an appreciation for the grand scale of your empire. It took a long time to develop the infrastructure to communicate in real-time here on Earth, imagine trying to have Internet access on the nearest colony light years away — the technological advancement needed to achieve that is insane.
Living on other planets has other challenges; disease prevention, branching evolution in your species, adapting to environments, government across multiple planets. As you grow and expand to new worlds you need to research advanced ways of dealing with common problems.
Finally you meet an alien species. Now your linguistics are put to the test and you need to develop the capability of talking with your new friends. Forget fighting – yet – before you can do that you need to develop weapons capable of defense and interstellar war.
When your empire has grown large and hostile enough to invade another planet you have even more things to worry about. Over 60 million people (3% of the population) died in World War 2 – how many soldiers do you think you will need to conquer an entire planet? It’s a battle of scale never imagined on earth. Before you can invade that planet you need to put millions of people on space ships – after building the ships, of course – haul them across the galaxy, get them down to the surface and finally conquer the planet. That is a huge endeavour… but you have to repel similar attacks all along the fringes of your empire.
Galactic Civilizations has been Hours of Fun
